About Brian

L.R.A.M., KONZERTEXAMEN KÖLN, TEACHER OF ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE

Brian McNamara studied the violin at the College of Music, Dublin. Awarded a German government scholarship, he studied at the Hochschüle in Berlin and later graduated with the highest distinction from the Hochschüle in Cologne. He has performed as recitalist and concerto soloist in England, Scotland, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Japan and has broadcast on RTE, BBC and German Radio.

In 1975 he was appointed senior teacher of violin at what is now the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama. With the support of the staff development programme in the Dublin Institute of Technology, Brian trained to be a teacher of Alexander Technique and graduated in summer 2003 from the Teacher Training Centre in Galway. He teaches violin in the Conservatory and teaches the Alexander Technique to students and staff.

Brian has given workshops in Alexander Technique in Trinity College Dublin, NUI Maynooth, Newpark School of Music and Dundalk Institute of Technology. He has been engaged as Alexander Technique Specialist for the RTE Symphony Orchestral and RTE Concert Orchestra.
